The hardest part of believing that ‘everything happens for a reason’ is waiting for the reason to come along, and if we’ll be honest with ourselves the reason doesn’t always come, so much that we sometimes wonder if it really happened for a reason.

After sparing some thoughts on the issue, I have come to the conclusion that we don’t really need to know the reason to move on, all we need is Tawwaqul (Trust in God).

I’m going to tell you a story, it is actually a cartoon that I watched but it explains the point that I’m trying to make. I’m only going to mention the parts important to the point that I’m trying to make, but you can watch the movie yourself to get the full story.
All Creations Big and Small is a movie about Dave a Nestrian – a clumsy silly-looking brightly colored creature, and his son Finny who are constantly moving in search of a place to call home, to the dismay of Finny who only wants to make friends they had to move again, only this time it was as a result of a colossal wave that is said to cover the world, Dave takes Finny to the gathering of animals where their salvation awaits: a huge Ark, big enough to contain all animals whose name is on the list with the Lion who is in charge of animal affairs on the Ark.
Dave and Finny were turned out but they managed to get on the Ark with the involuntary help of the Grymp Hazel and her daughter Leah. Out of curiosity Leah and Finny stepped out of the ship to look at the flood and are left behind as a tidal wave hit the ship and it sailed away.
Leah and Finny manage to escape from the rising water and two Griffins, they met Obesy and his parasite companion (who were also rejects) on their way and together they made their way to the top of the mountain. The water finally caught up with them, Obesy falls off a cliff (presumed dead), while Leah and Finny managed to stay afloat on a little iceberg. Meanwhile their parents manage to take control of the ship and steer it to the mountaintop, Leah managed to get on the ship but Finny falls into the water seemingly unconscious. When Dave tries to save Finny from drowning in the water, it turned out that they could breath just fine while submerged, they have finally found where they belong, Obesy also turned out to be a whale.

After all the hardship and hurdle, running as far away as possible from the water, being so sure that they couldn’t swim and that they’d been left out to die, it turns out that the reason they didn’t have a place on the ship was because they never needed it, they were in fact better off without it.

In real life, we’re are Dave and Finny, constantly trying to get things that we’re so sure we need, if we don’t get it and we’re reminded that ‘everything happens for a reason’ we find it very hard waiting for the reason to come along, in they story it took The End to find the reason, why wait that long when in fact we don’t need to know the reason to move on, all we need is a little trust in God, the kind of trust that makes us believe that it did happen for a reason, and despite not knowing what the reason is, this trust will make us believe that it was for the best and help us move on.

… Put your trust in Allah, certainly, Allah loves those who put their trust (in Him). Q 3:159

.. And put your trust in Allah. And Allah is Ever All-Sufficient as a Disposer of affairs. Q 4:81

Peace be with you…
